With all the news one sees on the excessive lifestyles of all these highly-paid celebrities, it was breath of fresh air to see Hollywood’s golden couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Joile announce that they are donating $2M to help impoverished and sick children in the world’s most depressed areas.
Through their newly-formed charity, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, the couple are donating the money to two organizations they have admired, Global Action for Children and Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without borders).
In her statement to the press, Angelina Jolie expressed how much she admired the people who worked for these causes:
“I have seen these brave men and women working in war zones and horrific conditions and I deeply admire them.”
Jolie has been working with global charities for some time, travelling around the world with Brad to further her work for refugees as U.N. Goodwill Ambassador. They then donated $300,000 for medical equipment Namibia where their daughter Shiloh was born. Her first photographs were also sold to the press to raise money for charity.
The very grateful U.S. director for Global Action for Children, Jennifer Delaney told the Associated Press:
“Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt not only care, but more important, are taking concrete action to address the fact that there will be 20 million children orphaned by AIDS by 2010, and millions more orphaned by tuberculosis, malaria and conflict or whose parents are sick and dying.”
